Growing up in a chemical factory in one of China’s Third Front cities during the Cold War, Liao Yi Bai's childhood could never have been a carefree one. Such personal experience and memories inspired him to create his works – stainless steel sculptures, demonstrating his first-hand observations of past and present Chinese society.

These stainless steel sculptures of Liao demonstrate a use of light, refraction and reflection. In Liao’s work, his welded angels, cats and dogs are fused and transformed into hybrid creatures of another technological age. Moreover, because of his childhood memories, Liao creates an abstract to confront the reality and make the audience think again about the impact of technological advancement.
