Hu Ren Yi was born in Suzhou in 1977 at the tail end of the Cultural Revolution and so did not experience the cultural shock this caused, instead growing up in an environment occupied with hope for the future. His paintings mostly feature his own stories and memories and the majority of the characters are his family, friends and sometimes the political figures of the past.

胡任乂1977年于苏州出生，当时正值文化大革命的末端，固他并没有经历文革对中国文化的冲击，反之，他在一个充满希望的环境下成长。其画作题材主要围绕儿时的见闻，画中人物则是他的家人、朋友及大众耳熟能详的政治人物。

Hu’s paintings are greatly influenced by the gardens and the architecture of Suzhou where he spent his childhood. He mixes the characters with his own memories of the colourful gardens in Suzhou. In these paintings, Hu’s characters interact with each other to show the harmonic living environment he desired.

胡任乂的童年回忆是他的缪思，其画作多以苏州色彩缤纷的花园及建筑物作为主体，可见胡任乂对童年的思念及眷恋；同时他亦把焦点放在他所创作的人物，揭示其渴望一个和谐的生活环境。
